Software Engineer 3 @MongoDB

Overview

The Agent Research and Tooling team, part of MongoDB's AI Builder Experience organization, is seeking a Software Engineer to build and maintain the tooling, evaluation systems, and quality gates for agent skills. This role resides at the intersection of developer tooling, applied AI, and software quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain agent skills and infrastructure for validation, evaluation, and publication.
• Design evaluation datasets and workflows for comparing agent behavior.
• Develop metrics and observability for agent skills.
• Implement safety and quality gates for agent-authored content.
• Create command-line interfaces, libraries, and integrations for development workflows.
• Integrate tooling into CI systems including GitHub Actions.
• Build checks for code generation quality.
• Investigate failures and improve systems based on findings.
• Collaborate across teams and communicate effectively about technical trade-offs.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in developer tools or automation systems.
• Fundamentals in API design, testing, error handling, and maintainability.
• Experience with CLIs, libraries, test infrastructure, static analysis, or CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to design usable systems for developers.
• Experience reasoning about correctness and safety in ambiguous environments.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Location

This role is open to remote work in the United States or can be based out of any of MongoDB's U.S. offices.
