Overview

Grafana Labs is a 100% remote company that builds observability tools to help users understand, respond to, and improve their systems. They are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to help build a context layer management system for AI-native data intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and operate core backend services for context ingestion, indexing, and retrieval APIs.
• Build architecture for a multi-tenant service and ensure tenant isolation and reliable service boundaries.
• Create APIs for AI agents and internal applications to retrieve relevant context and signals.
• Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to balance experimentation with reliability.
• Monitor services and improve system reliability using observability tools.
• Contribute to the technical direction and engineering practices for new product areas.
• Communicate effectively across teams in a dynamic environment.
• Take ownership of AI solutions ensuring they are scalable and aligned with user workflows.

Requirements

• Experience with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and applications powered by GenAI.
• Track record of delivering production-grade software.
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with observability tools.
• Nice to have: experience with agent frameworks, data platforms, and building tools for data engineering.
