Principal Software Engineer (Application Networking) - Platform Infrastructure @Elastic

Overview

The role is for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Platform Infrastructure team at Elastic, focusing on Application Networking. This position involves driving the technical vision, architecture, and design for Elastic Cloud’s application networking initiatives, which include Ingress, security controls, private connectivity, and DNS management.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for major application networking initiatives, owning designs from proposal through general availability.
• Lead the development of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls on a large scale for Elastic Cloud.
• Guide multi-quarter, cross-organizational projects through to delivery.
• Raise the operational quality of services and lead complex incident investigations.
• Mentor engineers and serve as a technical advisor to the engineering organization.
• Advise on technical trade-offs and roadmap direction with product management.
• Champion improvements to security, stability, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

• Experience designing complex distributed systems for production use.
• Deep expertise in application networking and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design.
• Experience operating high-availability SaaS platforms and improving reliability.
• Proven track record of using AI to enhance development and optimize code.
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to influence direction across teams.
• Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team environment.
