Staff Software Engineer - Databases SRE | Spain | Remote @Grafana Labs

Overview

In this remote role, Grafana Labs seeks a Staff Software Engineer - SRE to enhance the reliability of their cloud databases used by high-value customers. The company operates a fully managed observability platform and values open-source principles and a collaborative culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner closely with product engineering squads.
• Own production reliability for high-SLA customer environments.
• Design and implement automation for reliability practices.
• Ensure customers meet SLO targets.
• Define per-tenant SLOs and reliability models.
• Proactively reduce SLO burn to prevent incidents.
• Lead incident response and post-incident reviews.
• Contribute to design documents and code reviews.
• Influence feature design for scalability and operability.
• Build automation to eliminate toil.
• Improve alert quality and reduce noisy escalations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of engineering experience, with 4+ in SRE/CRE/production engineering.
• Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet).
• Technical leadership experience in guiding teams and mentoring engineers.
• Experience operating multi-tenant systems in production.
• Strong proficiency in designing and implementing SLOs.
• Familiarity with programming languages like Go, Python, or Java.
• Knowledge of Linux operating systems, networking, and cloud storage.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in incident response and post-incident documentation.
• Ability to collaborate with product engineering teams effectively.
• Preference for candidates who are intellectually curious and value transparency.
