    Overview

    Fivetran and dbt Labs are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical leader for the Metadata team, focusing on the metadata layer of the dbt platform including API, catalog, lineage, and run history services. This role is fully remote but may require occasional visits to the Denver office.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead the design and delivery of complex projects across Metadata services, coordinating with multiple engineers.
    • Design and develop new subsystems independently, owning them end to end.
    • Utilize AI tooling and agents throughout the software development lifecycle.
    • Review technical designs to ensure quality and identify potential design flaws.
    • Drive technical initiatives related to discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
    • Establish and uphold best practices for design, architecture, and coding quality.
    • Coach and mentor engineers, improving overall code quality.
    • Document technical specifications and ensure project documentation is up to date.
    • Optimize critical codebase components and manage incident response.
    • Participate in the on-call rotation as needed.

    Requirements

    • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of leading technical projects.
    • Deep expertise in designing subsystems within distributed, cloud-based environments.
    • Ability to set technical direction and drive multi-engineer initiatives.
    • Excellent judgment in design and architecture.
    • Proficient in languages such as Python, Java, C++, or C#.
    • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Familiarity with AI coding assistants and conversational AI tools.
