Overview
The role involves being a technical leader on the Metadata team at Fivetran and dbt Labs, focusing on the metadata layer of the dbt platform. The position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to complex projects and ensure high standards of design and code quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of complex, team-level projects across Metadata services.
- Independently design and develop the architecture of new subsystems.
- Use AI tooling and agents across development artifacts.
- Review and approve technical designs to maintain a high quality standard.
- Drive initiatives related to discovery API, catalog, lineage, and run history.
- Set and uphold design, architecture, and coding best practices.
- Coach and mentor engineers to improve code quality.
- Document technical specifications and maintain project documentation.
- Fix and optimize critical code base parts and enhance services' reliability and performance.
- Participate periodically in the on-call rotation.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of leading complex technical work.
- Expertise in designing and owning subsystems in distributed, cloud-based systems.
- Ability to set technical direction and drive initiatives across teams.
- Excellent design and architecture judgment.
- Experience with writing well-tested code and effective code reviews.
- Partnership experience with QE on test strategy and operational health.
- Proficiency in backend programming languages like Python, Java, C++, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with AI code assistants and coding agents.
