The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has announced a vacancy for a Supply Chain Management Specialist based in New York, offering experienced professionals an opportunity to contribute to the management and continuous improvement of supply chain systems supporting the United Nations Secretariat worldwide.
The position, classified at the IP P-3 level under a fixed-term appointment, is open for applications until 28 June 2026. The successful candidate will join the UNOPS Global Portfolios Office (GPO) and play a key role in supporting the implementation, sustainment, and enhancement of Umoja, the United Nations’ Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform.
According to the vacancy announcement, the Supply Chain Management Specialist will serve as a critical technical resource responsible for ensuring efficient supply chain operations through specialized business and technical support. The role focuses on Umoja supply chain functionalities and other related technologies used across the UN Secretariat.
The position is situated within the Office of Supply Chain Management, which oversees logistics, procurement, aviation safety, uniformed capabilities support, and operational outreach services. The selected specialist will report directly to the Project Manager and work under the full responsibility of UNOPS.
The Office of Supply Chain Management’s Enabling and Outreach Service is responsible for operational sustainment, performance monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvements of Umoja supply chain management functionalities globally.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide advanced technical and functional expertise in supply chain management systems and SAP-based operations.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Providing Tier 2b business operational support to Umoja users.
• Analyzing business requirements and translating them into system enhancements and configuration updates.
• Troubleshooting complex system issues and supporting users in resolving operational challenges.
• Maintaining, upgrading, and enhancing existing supply chain information systems.
• Conducting unit and integrated testing activities to ensure system functionality and reliability.
• Facilitating communication between supply chain functional groups, business stakeholders, and client entities.
• Supporting user acceptance testing and system deployment initiatives.
• Providing guidance and mentorship to junior personnel and consultants when required.
UNOPS highlighted that the role extends beyond operational support and includes driving innovation and modernization initiatives across supply chain technologies.
The Supply Chain Management Specialist will contribute to:
• Feasibility studies and systems analysis projects.
• Development of system specifications and user documentation.
• Integration of multiple technology systems and program components.
• Strengthening data security measures and access controls.
• Development of training materials and user manuals.
• Change management and user adoption strategies.
• Knowledge transfer and staff capacity-building initiatives.
• Evaluation of emerging technologies and recommendations for future deployment.
The incumbent will also participate in preparing reports, conducting technology assessments, and supporting strategic information management initiatives.
UNOPS is seeking candidates with strong academic credentials and extensive ERP implementation experience.
Applicants must possess either:
• A master’s degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, supply chain management, business administration, logistics management, or a related discipline with at least five years of relevant experience.
OR
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience.
Candidates must demonstrate substantial experience in planning, designing, developing, testing, and supporting ERP systems focused on supply chain management or logistics operations.
The organization is particularly interested in professionals with extensive SAP experience and knowledge of logistics operations within international environments.
Required experience includes:
• Acting as a SAP Functional Expert.
• Conducting business process analysis and process improvement initiatives.
• Supporting logistics execution and inventory or warehouse management systems.
• Managing Stock Transfer Order and Stock Transfer Request processes.
• Developing and managing Business Requirement Documents through SAP Solution Manager.
• Supporting governance and change management processes for ERP systems.
• Participating in major post-implementation support initiatives, including inventory reconciliation and supply chain optimization projects.
Preferred qualifications include experience providing SAP Tier 2b production support and managing supply chain master data configurations.
The position is part of the UNOPS Global Portfolios Office, which supports sustainable development, climate action, peacebuilding, and humanitarian operations in more than 130 countries. Through partnerships with governments, UN agencies, and international financial institutions, the office delivers project management, fund management, hosting services, and human resources support globally.
By strengthening supply chain technologies and operational effectiveness, the Supply Chain Management Specialist will contribute to the successful delivery of United Nations mandates and Sustainable Development Goals worldwide.
