Overview

The Communications Officer, Rapid Response – Africa will join the global Strategic Communications team at the Gates Foundation, focusing on proactive reputation management and strategic rapid-response initiatives across African markets.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and develop rapid-response communications plans for reputational risks in African markets.
Collaborate with teams to anticipate program-related risks.
Manage communications during breaking news and emergencies.
Monitor media and political developments for emerging risks.
Draft and disseminate tailored communications content.
Ensure consistent messaging across countries and platforms.
Update response playbooks and conduct scenario planning.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, or related fields.
8–10 years of experience in strategic communications or crisis management.
Proven track record of managing reputational strategies.
Strong rapid-response experience and writing skills.
In-depth understanding of African media landscapes.
Proficiency in English and preferably another relevant language.
Political acumen and cultural sensitivity.
