Role Overview

The Executive Communications Manager will support senior leaders at OpenAI by developing and executing communications strategies that help executives communicate effectively during key public and organizational moments.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, meaning the successful candidate will manage major communications tasks directly without overseeing a team. The role requires strong writing skills, excellent judgment, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments where decisions must often be made quickly.

A major responsibility of the position is managing executive social media accounts, including drafting posts, publishing updates, monitoring engagement, and adjusting messaging in real time.

Key Responsibilities

The Executive Communications Manager will collaborate with executives and cross-functional teams to ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and impactful.

Executive Communications Strategy

• Work closely with senior executives to design and implement communications strategies
• Shape leadership narratives across key organizational themes
• Coordinate messaging across media appearances, events, podcasts, and social channels

Content Development

• Draft high-impact materials including:

Social Media Management

Executive Preparation

• Prepare leaders for high-visibility appearances including:

Strategic Judgment

• Evaluate when to engage in public conversations and when to pause communication
• Escalate sensitive issues when necessary
• Anticipate important industry moments and identify opportunities for executive engagement

Required Experience and Skills

Professional Experience

• Approximately 7 years of experience in communications, technology communications, or social media management
• Experience directly managing executive or talent social media accounts

Communication Skills

• Exceptional writing and editing abilities
• Ability to adapt tone and messaging for different executives and audiences
• Strong understanding of storytelling and digital communication formats

Digital and Social Media Expertise

• Hands-on familiarity with major social media platforms
• Experience with social monitoring tools such as Sprout or Meltwater is a plus

Compensation and Benefits

The Executive Communications Manager position offers a competitive compensation package.

Salary Range:
$185,000 – $260,000 per year
