The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), an international Catholic organisation dedicated to accompanying, serving, and advocating for refugees and forcibly displaced persons, is recruiting for the position of Education Supervisor under its Education in Emergencies (EiE) programme in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

Organizational Overview
JRS operates globally and provides humanitarian education and support services to displaced populations through national and regional offices, supported by its international headquarters in Rome. In Nigeria, JRS focuses on improving access to quality education for vulnerable children in emergency and displacement settings.
Role Overview
The Education Supervisor will provide technical leadership, coordination, and quality assurance for the implementation of education activities across targeted LGAs. The role involves supervising field education teams, ensuring compliance with Education in Emergencies (EiE) standards, and strengthening access to safe and inclusive learning opportunities for children affected by displacement.
The officer will work full-time in Sokoto State and report directly to the Project Director.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Leadership and Implementation
• Lead planning, implementation, and quality assurance of EiE interventions in line with project workplans, budgets, donor requirements, and INEE Minimum Standards
• Ensure effective delivery of education activities across Isa, Sabon Birni, and Kware LGAs
• Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with humanitarian education priorities
Team Supervision and Capacity Building
• Supervise and mentor Education Supervisors, teachers, and learning facilitators
• Design and deliver teacher training programmes covering pedagogy, classroom management, psychosocial support (PSS), life skills, and inclusive education
• Support continuous professional development of education personnel
Learning Environment Development
• Oversee establishment, rehabilitation, and equipping of temporary learning spaces
• Ensure integration of WASH-in-Schools standards and protection/MHPSS considerations in learning environments
• Support safe and inclusive learning infrastructure for displaced and host communities
Access and Retention
• Lead enrolment and retention campaigns targeting out-of-school children
• Support accelerated and catch-up learning programmes
• Prioritise inclusion of girls, children with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups
Coordination and Representation
• Represent JRS in education coordination forums and stakeholder meetings
• Liaise with education authorities, partners, and community stakeholders
• Contribute to inter-agency coordination on Education in Emergencies
Monitoring and Reporting
• Ensure timely reporting in line with donor and organisational requirements
• Monitor project progress against workplans and indicators
• Support data collection, analysis, and quality assurance of education activities
Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage)
• Minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience in education programming
• At least 2 years’ experience in Education in Emergencies (EiE) or humanitarian contexts working with IDPs, refugees, or host communities
• Strong knowledge of INEE Minimum Standards and inclusive education principles
• Experience in teacher training, coaching, and education quality assurance
• Familiarity with donor reporting and compliance requirements
Skills and Competencies
• Strong planning, coordination, and leadership abilities
• Excellent writing, reporting, and analytical skills
• Ability to manage and support field teams in challenging environments
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with mobile data collection tools is an advantage
• Ability to work effectively in stressful and hard-to-reach locations
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa is an advantage
