    Overview

    The World Vegetable Center is seeking Enumerators for a short-term Postharvest Food Loss Assessment Study in Western Kenya. This role involves intensive fieldwork over an eight-day data collection period to gather data from farmers and traders on vegetable supply chains.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Attend enumerator training sessions and participate in survey pretests.
    • Identify and locate selected respondents.
    • Conduct structured interviews using digital data collection tools.
    • Engage with farmers, traders, aggregators, wholesalers, and retailers.
    • Support the experimental tracking of vegetable consignments.
    • Record transportation methods, packaging types, and handling practices.
    • Measure vegetable weight, quality grades, and temperature as required.
    • Complete market observation checklists.
    • Ensure accurate and complete digital data entry.
    • Submit completed surveys and field reports daily.
    • Participate in daily debrief sessions.

    Requirements

    • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.
    • Previous experience as a field enumerator, research assistant, or data collector is preferred.
    • Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO).
    • Must possess an Android-based smartphone or tablet.
    • Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili, and local languages spoken in Western Kenya.
    • Good numerical and observational skills.
    • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
    • Willingness to travel within study areas (Busia, Bungoma, and Kakamega counties).
    • Must be a resident of Busia, Bungoma, or Kakamega counties.
