Overview

The World Vegetable Center is seeking Enumerators for a short-term Postharvest Food Loss Assessment Study in Western Kenya. This role involves intensive fieldwork over an eight-day data collection period to gather data from farmers and traders on vegetable supply chains.

Key Responsibilities

Attend enumerator training sessions and participate in survey pretests.
Identify and locate selected respondents.
Conduct structured interviews using digital data collection tools.
Engage with farmers, traders, aggregators, wholesalers, and retailers.
Support the experimental tracking of vegetable consignments.
Record transportation methods, packaging types, and handling practices.
Measure vegetable weight, quality grades, and temperature as required.
Complete market observation checklists.
Ensure accurate and complete digital data entry.
Submit completed surveys and field reports daily.
Participate in daily debrief sessions.

Requirements

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.
Previous experience as a field enumerator, research assistant, or data collector is preferred.
Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO).
Must possess an Android-based smartphone or tablet.
Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili, and local languages spoken in Western Kenya.
Good numerical and observational skills.
Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Willingness to travel within study areas (Busia, Bungoma, and Kakamega counties).
Must be a resident of Busia, Bungoma, or Kakamega counties.
