Overview
The World Vegetable Center is seeking Enumerators for a short-term Postharvest Food Loss Assessment Study in Western Kenya. This role involves intensive fieldwork over an eight-day data collection period to gather data from farmers and traders on vegetable supply chains.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend enumerator training sessions and participate in survey pretests.
- Identify and locate selected respondents.
- Conduct structured interviews using digital data collection tools.
- Engage with farmers, traders, aggregators, wholesalers, and retailers.
- Support the experimental tracking of vegetable consignments.
- Record transportation methods, packaging types, and handling practices.
- Measure vegetable weight, quality grades, and temperature as required.
- Complete market observation checklists.
- Ensure accurate and complete digital data entry.
- Submit completed surveys and field reports daily.
- Participate in daily debrief sessions.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.
- Previous experience as a field enumerator, research assistant, or data collector is preferred.
- Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO).
- Must possess an Android-based smartphone or tablet.
- Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili, and local languages spoken in Western Kenya.
- Good numerical and observational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Willingness to travel within study areas (Busia, Bungoma, and Kakamega counties).
- Must be a resident of Busia, Bungoma, or Kakamega counties.
