Engineering Manager, Software, Catalog Enrichment @Instacart

Overview

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry in North America and is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Catalog Enrichment team. This team focuses on creating and maintaining product attributes across a vast catalog, enabling accurate search results, personalized recommendations, and effective advertising.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers to build the platform, pipelines, and interfaces for catalog enrichment.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap, prioritizing reliability and developer experience.
• Build and operate an AI-native enrichment platform incorporating large language models and workflow orchestration.
• Drive the evolution towards autonomous pipeline construction using clear input from users.
• Oversee the ML-facing catalog data layer and policies for data usage.
• Partner with various teams to streamline data flows and reduce integration friction.
• Ensure governance through clear management of source prioritization and compliance.
• Enhance productivity with AI-assisted tools for integration testing and automation.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and code reviews in new or exploratory areas.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience with production data or ML platforms, incorporating both batch and streaming components.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and workflow orchestration.
• Demonstrated ownership of data quality and compliance processes.
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical ideas.
• Preferred experience includes familiarity with catalog and product data platforms at scale, workflow systems, AI/ML features in production, and governance in multi-stakeholder settings.

Benefits

Instacart offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a base pay range of $196,000 — $207,000 CAD for successful candidates based in Canada. New hire equity grants and annual refresh grants are also available.

Location

This role is remote, available only to candidates located in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
