Finance and Compliance Officer @Mercy Corps

Overview

Mercy Corps is seeking a Finance and Compliance Officer responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and overseeing the full monthly accounting cycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the complete monthly accounting cycle
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records, ledgers, and journals
• Review and upload sub-journals into the general ledger
• Prepare revenue recognition and closing journal entries
• Maintain and update accounting software systems and project accounts
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements and Mercy Corps policies
• Oversee proper documentation and safeguarding of financial records
• Identify errors and coordinate corrective actions
• Monitor cash and bank balances across offices
• Prepare consolidated financial requests for headquarters
• Supervise and manage the Finance Assistant
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
• Train finance staff across field offices
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
• Work closely with program, HR, and operations teams

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in general ledger accounting
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and compliance standards
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Proficiency in general ledger and accounting software
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and MS Office tools
• Excellent written and spoken English
