Overview
The Finance Assistant supports administrative and financial operations, ensuring proper accounting practices, compliance with MSF procedures, and effective control of financial resources to achieve project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement cash management procedures and support treasury planning
- Process supplier payments and ensure proper documentation
- Record, classify, and file accounting transactions accurately
- Monitor rental contract timelines and notify management
- Support administrative communication and document translation
- Perform additional administrative tasks as assigned
- Prepare and upload bank payments after compliance checks
- Monitor bank balances and notify management of shortages
- Ensure adherence to monthly financial closing deadlines
- Support monthly financial planning (MMR)
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with MSF policies
- Conduct bank reconciliation and verify transactions
- Record daily cash transactions and manage petty cash
- Ensure receipts meet MSF standards (signatures, completeness, deadlines)
- Track cash advances and outstanding payments
- Update IMS food costs and upload into Unifield
- Issue recharge cards and support patient transport reimbursements
- Maintain proper filing (hardcopy and digital) of financial documents
Requirements
- Essential: Diploma in Finance, Business, or Administration
- Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or professional certification
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- NGO experience (especially with MSF or similar organizations) is an advantage
- Languages: English (required), Hausa (required)
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet)
- Knowledge of accounting software (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
