Overview

The Laboratory Supervisor at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with health protocols, and managing laboratory staff.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in project planning, follow-up, and laboratory budget review.
Ensure compliance with MSF hygiene and safety protocols and inform staff of biological risks.
Perform laboratory tests and sample collection (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology).
Maintain accurate patient data and communicate test results to doctors.
Ensure proper management, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Prevent stock-outs by managing supplies and inventory systems.
Maintain cold chain systems for samples and reagents in collaboration with logistics.
Manage laboratory activity records and tools (e.g., EpyTryp) in the absence of a Lab Manager.
Prepare and send samples for external quality control.
Supervise laboratory staff including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
Ensure staff are properly trained to use medical devices.
Report equipment malfunctions to the biomedical team.
Produce regular reports on laboratory activities and operational challenges.

Requirements

Strong laboratory technical skills across multiple disciplines.
Experience in laboratory supervision and team management.
Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and quality control procedures.
Ability to manage inventory, equipment, and reporting systems.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work in a high-pressure humanitarian setting.
