    Overview

    The Laboratory Supervisor at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with health protocols, and managing laboratory staff.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participate in project planning, follow-up, and laboratory budget review.
    • Ensure compliance with MSF hygiene and safety protocols and inform staff of biological risks.
    • Perform laboratory tests and sample collection (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology).
    • Maintain accurate patient data and communicate test results to doctors.
    • Ensure proper management, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
    • Prevent stock-outs by managing supplies and inventory systems.
    • Maintain cold chain systems for samples and reagents in collaboration with logistics.
    • Manage laboratory activity records and tools (e.g., EpyTryp) in the absence of a Lab Manager.
    • Prepare and send samples for external quality control.
    • Supervise laboratory staff including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
    • Ensure staff are properly trained to use medical devices.
    • Report equipment malfunctions to the biomedical team.
    • Produce regular reports on laboratory activities and operational challenges.

    Requirements

    • Strong laboratory technical skills across multiple disciplines.
    • Experience in laboratory supervision and team management.
    • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and quality control procedures.
    • Ability to manage inventory, equipment, and reporting systems.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a high-pressure humanitarian setting.
