Overview
The Laboratory Supervisor at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with health protocols, and managing laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in project planning, follow-up, and laboratory budget review.
- Ensure compliance with MSF hygiene and safety protocols and inform staff of biological risks.
- Perform laboratory tests and sample collection (serology, hematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, parasitology).
- Maintain accurate patient data and communicate test results to doctors.
- Ensure proper management, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Prevent stock-outs by managing supplies and inventory systems.
- Maintain cold chain systems for samples and reagents in collaboration with logistics.
- Manage laboratory activity records and tools (e.g., EpyTryp) in the absence of a Lab Manager.
- Prepare and send samples for external quality control.
- Supervise laboratory staff including recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation.
- Ensure staff are properly trained to use medical devices.
- Report equipment malfunctions to the biomedical team.
- Produce regular reports on laboratory activities and operational challenges.
Requirements
- Strong laboratory technical skills across multiple disciplines.
- Experience in laboratory supervision and team management.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and quality control procedures.
- Ability to manage inventory, equipment, and reporting systems.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure humanitarian setting.
