Overview
The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is seeking applications for an International Individual Consultant to support IOCINDIO and contribute to regional ocean science cooperation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and technical support to IOCINDIO and assist in organizing the biennial intergovernmental session in Bali, Indonesia (September 2026).
- Liaise with IOC Member States, officials, ministries, and UNESCO National Commissions to increase regional participation.
- Support the development and implementation of programs aligned with IOC strategies and secure funding from donors.
- Facilitate the establishment of the IOCINDIO Secretariat in India.
- Monitor and manage the Sub-Commission’s budget and contributions.
- Promote activities related to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
- Participate in intergovernmental and technical meetings as required.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of professional experience in ocean science, with at least 4 years at the international level.
- At least 2 years managing international projects/programmes.
- 1 year of experience in fundraising and resource mobilization.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and program management skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Fluency in English; working knowledge of French is desirable.
