Overview

The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is seeking applications for an International Individual Consultant to support IOCINDIO and contribute to regional ocean science cooperation.

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert advice and technical support to IOCINDIO and assist in organizing the biennial intergovernmental session in Bali, Indonesia (September 2026).
Liaise with IOC Member States, officials, ministries, and UNESCO National Commissions to increase regional participation.
Support the development and implementation of programs aligned with IOC strategies and secure funding from donors.
Facilitate the establishment of the IOCINDIO Secretariat in India.
Monitor and manage the Sub-Commission’s budget and contributions.
Promote activities related to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
Participate in intergovernmental and technical meetings as required.

Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
Minimum 7 years of professional experience in ocean science, with at least 4 years at the international level.
At least 2 years managing international projects/programmes.
1 year of experience in fundraising and resource mobilization.
Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and program management skills.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Fluency in English; working knowledge of French is desirable.
