Lead, Platform Engineering @MongoDB

Overview

The Infrastructure Engineering team at MongoDB focuses on building and maintaining a self-service internal development platform that allows engineering teams to reliably deploy and operate their production services and products. The team collaborates with multiple engineering teams to understand infrastructure requirements and development workflows, continuously monitoring service utilization and seeking ways to improve developer productivity through automation and education.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, plan, and execute projects to run, grow, and transform MongoDB's self-service internal developer platform.
• Manage a team of platform engineers and organize their work in coordination with other engineering leads.
• Mentor other engineers and lead by example.
• Investigate gaps in development workflows and understand new infrastructure requirements.
• Write and review automation, configuration management, and application code.
• Author and review functional specifications for large platform projects.
• Own and operate the internal development platform that runs MongoDB.
• Collaborate with remote engineers across multiple time zones (PST, EST, GMT, IST).

Requirements

• 2+ years of managing and mentoring a team of 3+ engineers.
• 5+ years of experience in large software/infrastructure project design and implementation.
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, preferably in AWS.
• Strong backend programming skills, fluency in Go preferred.
• Experience operating production Kubernetes clusters.
• Knowledge of SLI/SLO definitions and observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
• Strong Linux and TCP/IP networking skills.
• Familiarity with authentication protocols and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience working with AI coding agents.
