Overview
Docker is a globally distributed, remote-first team that builds tools for software development. They are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Secure Build and SCS Services teams, focusing on secure software supply chain initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Secure Build and SCS Services, ensuring delivery, team health, growth, and operational excellence.
- Develop a coherent portfolio plan from two changing roadmaps, balancing priorities and trade-offs.
- Collaborate with Product teams to shape strategy and roadmaps.
- Engage in design and code reviews, incident response, and hands-on contributions as needed.
- Oversee technical direction and interfaces between the teams, maintaining trust boundaries and operational ownership.
- Manage operational load with product work and invest in reliability improvements.
- Support engineer growth, performance management, hiring, and retention.
- Coordinate with cross-functional partners while minimizing team disruptions.
- Lead the responsible use of AI-assisted engineering, communicating decisions and risks effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years managing engineering teams across multiple technical domains.
- 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, particularly in backend or developer tooling.
- Experience in leading and retaining engineers at a similar or higher technical level.
- Ability to prioritize across competing roadmaps and operational commitments.
- Strong understanding of backend systems, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Familiarity with CI/build systems, containers, and software supply chain security.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for leading a remote-first team.
