Overview

The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team as a Principal Software Engineer to focus on Elasticsearch's performance and resilience in the context of the Serverless offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing, building, and operating core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improving components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintaining the cluster coordination system to keep performance high and data safety.
- Pushing limits on the number of shards, nodes, and data handled by Elasticsearch.
- Analyzing performance and concurrency issues and proposing solutions.
- Supporting engineers with complex problems and owning operational investigations until issues are resolved.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong skills in core Java and understanding of data structures and concurrency constructs.
- Proficiency in algorithms and building large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience in managing projects with multiple engineers.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and adapt to different projects or codebases.
- Capable of working autonomously and driving decisions in a distributed team.
