Overview
The role involves working as a Principal Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. The focus will be on scalability, performance, and resilience in the context of Elasticsearch's Serverless offering.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing, building, and operating core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improving components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintaining the cluster coordination system for high performance during node changes and data movements.
- Addressing performance and concurrency issues and proposing solutions.
- Supporting engineers with challenging problems.
- Managing operational investigations to resolve performance or stability issues.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features.
- Technical proficiency in algorithms and experience with large-scale distributed systems.
- Capable of managing projects involving multiple engineers and owning them from design to development.
- Experience using AI for development, debugging, and code optimization.
- Able to collaborate across functions and work autonomously in a distributed team.
Bonus Points
- Experience with data stores
- Knowledge of search and analytics, particularly Lucene
- Familiarity with asynchronous event-driven network frameworks like Netty
