Overview

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join their Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. This role focuses on enhancing the performance, scale, and resilience of Elasticsearch, particularly within their Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve Elasticsearch’s components for concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance as nodes join or leave the cluster.
• Pursue solutions for issues like performance or concurrency challenges.
• Assist support engineers with complex problems.
• Own operational investigations until performance or stability issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of standard data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to debug complex features across multiple machines.
• Project ownership from design to execution.
• Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers.
• Strong collaboration skills across functions and teams.
• Autonomous working ability and competency in asynchronous communication.
