Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. The role focuses on scalability, performance, and resilience, particularly within the Serverless offering of Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate key components of the Serverless Elasticsearch platform, impacting customer experience.
• Enhance Elasticsearch components for concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance as nodes fluctuate and data is managed.
• Push the limits on the capacity of shards, nodes, and data handled by Elasticsearch.
• Troubleshoot performance and concurrency issues by proposing solutions.
• Provide support for complex issues faced by support engineers.
• Oversee operational investigations from start to finish until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Extensive background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience developing large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to build and debug complex features across multiple machines.
• Proven track record of taking projects from concept to completion.
• Experience managing projects with multiple engineers.
• Capability to use AI for development acceleration, debugging, and optimization while taking ownership of outcomes.
• Strong collaboration skills across functions and teams.
• Ability to work independently and drive decisions in a distributed environment with clear communication.
