Overview
The role involves working as a Principal Software Engineer I on the Serverless Control Plane team at Elastic, focused on the orchestration layer behind Elastic Cloud Serverless. This fully managed offering operates with a stateless architecture that separates compute from storage, aiming for scalability with customer demand.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction for major initiatives across the Serverless control plane, owning designs from proposal through general availability.
- Lead multi-quarter projects with dependencies across teams such as Elasticsearch and Kibana to ensure delivery.
- Design, build, and evolve distributed systems to manage Serverless projects across cloud service providers.
- Raise the operational bar of services, lead complex incident investigations, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Mentor and support engineers, enhancing collective technical judgment and setting standards for software development.
- Partner with product management and senior engineering on technical trade-offs and roadmap direction.
- Identify and champion improvements to security, stability, and cost efficiency proactively.
Requirements
- 8+ years building software, including experience in complex distributed systems in production.
- Deep expertise in Kubernetes and cloud-native architecture.
- Proficiency in Go and experience with at least one major cloud service provider (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
- Experience operating high-availability SaaS platforms and improving reliability.
- Track record of applying AI for development and debugging complex systems.
- Ability to collaborate across teams with adaptability to project demands.
- Effective communication skills for influencing direction across teams.
