Overview

The role involves serving as a Principal Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch Performance team at Elastic. This position focuses on leading performance engineering initiatives to optimize and predict Elasticsearch performance for large organizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Own core performance engineering initiatives from architecture to production, aiming for high-impact optimizations.
• Develop foundational performance models for complex, distributed systems.
• Drive optimization strategies to maintain performance, predictability, and scalability in various environments.
• Analyze system behavior to identify performance bottlenecks.
• Ensure robust performance benchmarks and regression detection.
• Collaborate to embed performance-first thinking into new features.
• Design AI-assisted optimization tools that streamline profiling and benchmarking.
• Mentor other engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence and performance-aware development.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Experience in profiling and optimizing distributed systems using benchmarking tools.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture.
• Ability to leverage AI or advanced tooling for optimization and debugging.
• Collaborative skills to work across functions and teams effectively.
