The role involves serving as a Principal Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch Performance team at Elastic. This position focuses on leading performance engineering initiatives to optimize and predict Elasticsearch performance for large organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own core performance engineering initiatives from architecture to production, aiming for high-impact optimizations.
- Develop foundational performance models for complex, distributed systems.
- Drive optimization strategies to maintain performance, predictability, and scalability in various environments.
- Analyze system behavior to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Ensure robust performance benchmarks and regression detection.
- Collaborate to embed performance-first thinking into new features.
- Design AI-assisted optimization tools that streamline profiling and benchmarking.
- Mentor other engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence and performance-aware development.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
- Experience in profiling and optimizing distributed systems using benchmarking tools.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture.
- Ability to leverage AI or advanced tooling for optimization and debugging.
- Collaborative skills to work across functions and teams effectively.
