Principal Software Engineer - Query Engine, Database Internals - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch - Analytical Engine team. This role requires building new analytics capabilities in Elasticsearch’s compute engine and contributing to the development of a new query language called ES|QL.

Key Responsibilities

• Define, lead, and contribute to the development of data-intensive enhancements.
• Research latest features, data structures, and algorithms in the industry.
• Collaborate with partners and product teams to understand needs and build strategic vision.
• Provide technical vision for user interfaces and underlying language syntax.
• Work with a globally distributed team focused on search and query analytics capabilities.

Requirements

• Experience leading technical projects in data and enterprise architectures.
• Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Hands-on experience with search and analytics APIs.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiar with data structures and concurrency.
• Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven track record of using AI to optimize systems and code.
• Ability to collaborate across functions in a distributed team.
