They are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team, focusing on enhancing the vector similarity search functionality within Elasticsearch.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading vector database offering.
    • Contribute to building new search features and fixing bugs, while simplifying the codebase.
    • Work with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
    • Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch's vector similarity support for search relevance.
    • Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
    • Write idiomatic modern Java code.

    Requirements

    • Experience with novel techniques in vector similarity on large user platforms or academic research in vector similarity information retrieval.
    • Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases using relevant algorithms.
    • Strong skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs.
    • Ability to work autonomously on projects from design to completion.
    • Experience in collaborative code development and feedback exchange.
    • Familiarity with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proven track record of using AI for development, debugging, and optimizing code.
