Overview
Instacart is seeking a Privacy Counsel to support its rapidly scaling global privacy program, which is evolving alongside the company's growth in e-commerce, advertising, health, and AI-driven product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor global privacy and data protection developments, translating enforcement trends into actionable guidance for stakeholders.
- Review and counsel new products and business initiatives on privacy requirements, ensuring compliant design from the start.
- Establish clear frameworks for data use, audience targeting, measurement, and consent in Instacart's advertising business.
- Assess and govern data sharing arrangements with retail partners and other stakeholders, ensuring necessary agreements are in place.
- Strengthen privacy program operations, supporting PRAs and DPIAs, and maintaining effective documentation processes and training materials.
Requirements
- J.D. from a top-tier law school; membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California required or ability to register as in-house counsel).
- 6+ years of experience focused on privacy and data protection, preferably at a leading law firm, in-house, or both.
- Deep knowledge of CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and U.S. state privacy and health data laws.
- Experience advising on adtech, data sharing, and consumer data use in a retail or e-commerce environment.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
