Overview
The role of Release Engineer focuses on operational execution and software development within the Release Team, which manages ClickHouse Cloud's continuous delivery. The team ensures the health of tens of thousands of ClickHouse clusters through effective tooling and operational strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute rolling upgrades across a large number of ClickHouse clusters, ensuring safety, correctness, and minimal impact on customers.
- Own the full release pipeline from pre-upgrade validation to post-upgrade monitoring and incident response.
- Investigate and resolve production issues as part of an on-call rotation, addressing edge cases and unique cluster situations.
- Build and improve internal tooling and automation for reliable and repeatable large-scale database operations.
- Collaborate with core database and cloud infrastructure teams to identify and solve operational pain points.
- Support and educate other engineering teams on the use of internal tools.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with stateful distributed systems in production, such as databases or storage systems.
- Hands-on experience with upgrades or maintenance operations on live production data stores.
- Strong production debugging skills and the ability to navigate unfamiliar systems under pressure.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Kubernetes.
- Software development experience in Go or another language with a willingness to learn.
- Experience with ClickHouse is preferred.
