Senior Android Engineer II, Digital Twin Platform @Instacart

Overview

The Digital Twin Platform team at Instacart is on a mission to understand exactly what is on store shelves at any given moment, delivering critical inventory intelligence for various products. They are seeking a Senior Android Engineer to help build Android-native applications that enhance the store view and Connected Stores programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own Android applications for the Digital Twin Platform, including scanning apps and experiences supporting Connected Stores initiatives.
• Serve as a technical leader, setting architectural direction and best practices while improving code quality across the platform.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver Android solutions that support real-time shelf intelligence and data collection.
• Navigate a fast-paced, evolving environment, balancing long-term architecture with quick shipping and iteration.
• Define the Android engineering landscape as organizational needs expand.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of professional Android development experience using Kotlin and/or Java.
• Expertise in Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and modern architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture).
• Experience in designing and building Android applications, owning architecture decisions end to end.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering teams.
• Preferred: Experience in non-consumer Android applications, familiarity with retail hardware platforms, and background in data-intensive applications.

Benefits

Instacart offers market-competitive compensation and benefits. For Canadian candidates, the base pay range for this role is $196,000 — $207,000 CAD, along with eligibility for new hire equity grants and annual refresh grants.

Location

This is a remote role but restricted to Canada, specifically within the provinces of Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.
