Senior Detection Engineer II @Instacart

Overview

The role of Senior Detection Engineer II at Instacart involves building and operating systems that identify and respond to threats within one of North America's largest grocery technology platforms. The position is part of the Detection Engineering team, which is integral to the Security organization, overseeing the detection lifecycle in a cloud-native environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, tune, document, and maintain detection logic across multiple log sources, including endpoint, cloud, container, and SaaS products.
• Assist in cyber forensic investigations involving various log sources.
• Optimize log ingestion pipelines and telemetry collection for actionable security data.
• Design and build SOAR playbooks and automation workflows to enhance detection triage and response actions.
• Mentor junior security analysts and detection engineers on threat hunting and detection methodologies.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in detection engineering, incident response, or offensive security roles.
• Experience with one or more public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Deep understanding of attacker TTPs in zero trust environments.
• Proficient knowledge of macOS internals and specific threats.
• Experience with detection-as-code workflows, including version control and automated testing.
• Basic proficiency in Python, Golang, or similar programming languages.
• Relevant certifications: GCFA, GCFE, GNFA, GREM, OSCP, GCIA, or similar.
