Senior Engineering Manager, Postgres @ClickHouse

Overview

The role involves leading the Managed Postgres team at ClickHouse, focused on building and operating ClickHouse Managed Postgres, a high-performance PostgreSQL service. This position combines people leadership, technical direction, product thinking, and operational ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team with clear expectations and performance management.
• Own outcomes across provisioning, fleet management, failover, point-in-time recovery, upgrades, observability, performance, and security.
• Create a multi-quarter roadmap from customer and business needs with incremental milestones.
• Guide architecture and assist senior engineers in making sound trade-offs.
• Improve operational quality across SLOs, incidents, maintenance, and automation.
• Engage with customers to turn pain points into product improvements.
• Align dependencies, surface risks, and maintain predictable execution across teams.
• Hire and develop a diverse team of PostgreSQL and infrastructure experts.

Requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a managerial role in infrastructure or databases.
• Experience with building and operating customer-facing scalable services.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or managed relational databases, including high availability and performance diagnostics.
• Technical credibility to engage in architecture and incident management.
• Proven ability to hire, coach, and retain engineering talent.
• Strong execution judgment and a customer-focused mindset.
