Overview

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. This role focuses on ensuring how Elasticsearch provides scalable performance and resilience, especially within the context of its Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch, impacting customer experience worldwide.
• Improve Elasticsearch's concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain cluster coordination systems for high performance as nodes join or leave the cluster.
• Push limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate and resolve performance or concurrency issues.
• Support support engineers with complex problem-solving.
• Own operational investigations end-to-end for performance and stability issues.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Proficient in algorithms with experience in highly distributed systems.
• Ability to debug and build features with a broad impact across multiple machines.
• Project ownership from design to execution.
• Experience using AI to enhance development and optimize code.
• Ability to collaborate across functions with flexible transitions between projects.
• Autonomous working style with effective communication skills.
