The role involves working as a Senior Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, focusing on scalability, performance, and resilience within the Serverless offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch.
• Improve components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system for high performance.
• Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate performance and concurrency issues and propose solutions.
• Support engineers in resolving complex problems.
• Own operational investigations until issues are resolved.

Requirements

• Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
• Experience with complex, highly distributed systems.
• Ability to build and debug features with broad impact across machines.
• Track record of using AI to optimize code and debug systems.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to transition between projects smoothly.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive results in a distributed team.
