Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Operations Research @Instacart

Overview

Instacart is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a strong Operations Research background to join the Service Availability & Routing team within its Logistics organization. The role focuses on applying combinatorial optimization, mathematical programming, and AI to solve significant challenges in the fulfillment space, directly impacting Instacart's profitability and shopper experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning solutions to address practical challenges in the marketplace.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and backend engineers to understand business needs and create impactful ML applications.
• Engage with diverse stakeholders to ensure solutions are well-integrated and aligned with business goals.
• Refine and advance algorithms and models to enhance operational efficiency.

Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience using machine learning to solve real-world problems with large datasets.
• Strong programming skills in Python and fluency in data manipulation (SQL, Pandas) and Machine Learning tools (scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow).
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Effective communicator capable of collaborating with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
• Graduate degree (masters or PhD) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
