Senior R&D Software Engineer, Fivetran AI @Fivetran

Overview

Fivetran is seeking a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the fast-growing Fivetran AI team. The company is focused on building an open data infrastructure for AI agents, aiming to simplify and automate data movement across various systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI relevant to Fivetran AI’s roadmap.
• Prototype new ideas and develop them into production-grade features.
• Build and maintain back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Contribute to the AISQL capability utilizing natural language and dbt metric definitions.
• Manage production reliability, including incident response and SRE duties.
• Write and maintain tests; perform hands-on QA to prevent issues.
• Use coding agents for automating repetitive tasks.
• Partner with product and design teams to shape future developments.
• Contribute to hiring by participating in interviews.

Requirements

• 5+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
• Ability to execute complex tasks with minimal guidance.
• Comfortable with AI/ML research and turning findings into prototypes.
• Strong product and market awareness.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Willingness to engage across the full stack as needed.
• Ability to write well-structured, performant code.
• Experience with coding agents to enhance productivity.
• Analytical mindset for identifying and improving systems.
• Able to thrive in a dynamic, startup-like environment.

Location

This is a full-time hybrid position based out of New York, NY, requiring two days in the office each week.
