Overview

Fivetran is seeking a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join their AI team, focusing on building the governed context layer for AI agents. This role emphasizes research and application of innovative techniques in the AI field.

Key Responsibilities

• Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI to align with Fivetran AI’s roadmap.
• Prototype new ideas and develop them into production-grade features.
• Build and maintain backend and frontend systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Contribute to the AISQL capability for natural language to SQL execution.
• Take ownership of production reliability through on-call rotations and incident response.
• Automate repetitive tasks to focus on research and design work.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to shape product development.
• Participate in the hiring process by contributing to interviews.

Requirements

• 5+ years of programming experience in Python and/or Java.
• Expert in executing complex tasks with minimal guidance.
• Ability to read AI/ML research and implement findings effectively.
• Proficient in SQL and experience with data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake).
• Strong willingness to work across the full stack: research, backend, frontend, and QA.
• Experience with coding agents or AI tools for enhancing engineering workflows.
• Analytical mindset for identifying and designing improvements in systems.
• Adaptability to thrive in a startup-like environment with shifting priorities.

Location

This is a full-time hybrid position based out of Denver, Colorado, with a requirement to be in the office two days a week.
