Senior R&D Software Engineer, Fivetran AI @Fivetran

Overview

Fivetran is looking for a Senior R&D Software Engineer to join the Fivetran AI team, focusing on building the open data infrastructure that powers AI agents. This role involves researching and implementing new techniques in AI, with responsibilities spanning various engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Research emerging techniques in retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI, evaluating relevance to Fivetran AI's roadmap.
• Prototype new ideas quickly and turn successful prototypes into production-grade features.
• Build and maintain both back-end and front-end systems for the Fivetran AI product.
• Contribute to the AISQL capability for natural language to SQL processing using dbt metric definitions.
• Take ownership of production reliability through on-call rotation and incident response.
• Write and maintain tests while conducting hands-on QA.
• Use coding agents to automate repetitive tasks.
• Partner with product and design teams to shape future developments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of programming experience with Python and/or Java.
• Ability to execute complex tasks with minimal guidance.
• Comfortable reading AI/ML research and turning findings into prototypes.
• Strong product awareness for evaluating emerging techniques.
• Experience with SQL and data warehouses like BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
• Willingness to work across the full stack as per team needs.
• Ability to write well-structured code and suggest improvements in unfamiliar codebases.
• Thrives in a startup-like environment.

Location
