Senior Software Developer - Storage Engine - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Storage Engine team. This fully remote role focuses on developing core storage and query technologies for observability workloads, improving storage efficiency, and optimizing performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Drive cross-organizational initiatives for industry-leading observability solutions.
• Collaborate with a global team on Elasticsearch logs and metrics capabilities.
• Implement best practices for clean coding standards and improve system operations.
• Act as a subject matter expert and mentor across key areas of Elasticsearch.
• Triaging, resolving, and reviewing issues and pull requests with a global community.
• Write modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is predominantly Java-based.

Requirements

• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and transition between projects.
• Experience with AI to accelerate development and debug complex systems.
• Familiarity with indexing, storage, and querying of time-series data.
• Knowledge of data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, or PostgreSQL.
• Strong core Java skills and understanding of its concurrency features.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills within a distributed team.
