Elastic, the Search AI Company, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This globally-distributed team focuses on delivering a robust search experience, contributing to both the technical direction and the improvement of search capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to enhance speed and relevance in search.
• Develop new search features and fix bugs while making code more understandable.
• Collaborate with a distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern Java code as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity on search platforms or relevant academic research.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, including algorithms such as HNSW and IVF.
• Solid core Java skills with an understanding of data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to work autonomously on projects from design to execution.
• Familiarity with collaborative coding practices and feedback processes.
• Experience with multiple data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven ability to leverage AI for development and debugging.
• Strong collaboration skills across teams and projects.
