Senior Software Engineer - Core Experience, Growth @Instacart

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own backend services, APIs, and data integrations that power coupon merchandising.
• Implement and iterate on experiments end-to-end by partnering with Product and Data Science to ideate, launch, measure, and refine A/B tests.
• Identify and execute codebase and product optimizations for reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to define roadmaps, success metrics, and communicate tradeoffs.
• Uphold high engineering standards through code reviews, testing, documentation, and architecture decisions.
• Partner with frontend and mobile engineers to deliver cohesive, high-quality experiences across platforms.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend development.
• Proficiency in at least one modern backend language and framework (e.g., Go, Python, Java, Ruby, or Node.js).
• Hands-on experience designing and operating RESTful or gRPC APIs and microservices in production.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and caching/NoSQL stores.
• Experience collaborating with Product and Data Science to build data-informed features.
• Experience deploying services on a public cloud and working with containers.
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code with strong debugging skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Benefits

Instacart offers highly competitive compensation and benefits, which vary based on location. The base pay range for Canadian candidates is CAD $168,000 – $177,500. Additionally, new hire equity grants and annual refresh grants are available.

Location

This role is remote, but candidates must be based in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
