Overview
Harvey is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join its central data platform team. This role involves building systems that enable teams at Harvey to work with data confidently and independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the data platform's architecture and technical direction, treating data infrastructure as a software product built from reusable frameworks.
- Build and operate ingestion layer across streaming, batch, CDC, and third-party connectors.
- Land data into Snowflake and define a clean handoff for Analytics Engineering.
- Manage the orchestration platform — scheduling, retries, backfills, and dependency management.
- Build transformation and compute frameworks for data processing at scale and self-serve tooling for product engineers and analysts.
- Design and operate stream processing infrastructure for real-time product features and operational alerting.
- Build quality, observability, lineage, cataloging, and discovery layers for data trust.
- Establish patterns and tooling for PII and sensitive data management and multi-region residency requirements.
- Set technical standards through design reviews, documentation, and mentorship.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating production data infrastructure.
- Deep experience with cloud data warehouses, preferably Snowflake.
- Hands-on experience with CDC and streaming pipelines using technologies like Kafka or Flink.
- Experience with managed ingestion tools (e.g., Fivetran, Airbyte) and workflow orchestration (e.g., Airflow).
- Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL.
- Familiarity with cloud data services (Azure, AWS, GCP), Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Knowledge of data governance in regulated environments.
Benefits
Compensation ranges from $193,400 to $290,000 USD, depending on location.
Location
This role is based in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA.
