Overview

The Marketing Enablement & Technology (MET) team at Instacart is focused on building the systems, APIs, and data pipelines that power the company's Paid Marketing channels. The role of Senior Software Engineer involves providing technical leadership, influencing architectural decisions, and enhancing team productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive the team's technical roadmap and make architectural decisions to build reusable, scalable systems.
• Enhance developer productivity through process and tooling improvements.
• Lead initiatives and propose strategic work, collaborating with senior Product and Marketing leaders.
• Champion observability, resilience, cost optimization, and security principles across projects.
• Mentor engineers and promote well-documented processes to resolve conflicts.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of software engineering experience with a focus on technical roadmaps and architectural decisions.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and ability to design reusable frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of scalable, high-throughput systems with a focus on observability and security.
• Experience influencing product roadmaps through strategic technical opportunities.
• Proven ability to enhance team productivity through process improvements and mentorship.
• Excellent communication and influence skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with infrastructure and tooling for AI-assisted development.
• Expertise in ad tech and marketing technology ecosystems.
• Experience leading legacy system modernization and managing technical debt.
• Ability to establish coding standards and technical review processes.
• Capability to contribute technically during crises and collaborate with external teams.
