The role is for a Senior Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic, focused on delivering an industry-leading search engine. The team aims to enhance search capabilities while collaborating in a globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce a robust search engine offering that ensures speed and relevance.
• Contribute full-time to Elasticsearch by building new features and fixing bugs, improving code clarity.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, managing them as needed.
• Write modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is primarily in Java.

Requirements

• Experience with search or vector databases and relevant algorithms at scale.
• Solid skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to take on projects from start to finish, encompassing technical design and collaboration with other engineers.
• Comfortable with collaborative development and feedback on code.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Track record of using AI to optimize code and debug complex systems.
• Able to transition between projects based on priorities while collaborating across functions.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive results in a distributed team setting.
