Elastic, the Search AI Company, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This role involves delivering a robust and feature-rich search experience and contributing to the improvement of search functionality.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch full time by building new search features and fixing bugs.
• Work with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in search relevance based on insights.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern Java code; Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases (e.g., HNSW, IVF).
• Solid skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to manage projects autonomously from design to completion.
• Experience with collaborative development and providing feedback on code.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven experience using AI to accelerate development and optimize code.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and adapt to business priorities.
• Strong communication skills, especially in a distributed team environment.
