Overview

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This role involves contributing to the technical direction and vision for search capabilities and improving the search experience using Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine, providing speed and relevance in search.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs while improving code clarity.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in search relevance based on your expertise.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern idiomatic Java, as Elasticsearch is largely based on Java.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases, using algorithms such as HNSW and IVF.
• Strong skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from start to finish.
• Experience in collaborative development and giving/receiving code feedback.
• Familiarity with several data storage technologies, such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven ability to apply AI to improve development processes and optimize systems.
• Competence in cross-functional collaboration and transitioning between projects based on priorities.
• Autonomy in decision-making and communication in a distributed team setting.
