Overview

The role is for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic, a company focused on enabling businesses to find answers in real time using their data. This globally-distributed team aims to deliver a robust search experience by improving search capabilities and functionalities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading search engine, focused on speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and resolve bugs, enhancing code understandability.
• Collaborate with a global team on vector search capabilities.
• Drive improvements in search relevance using expertise in Elasticsearch.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, triaging or addressing them as necessary.
• Write modern, idiomatic Java code, as Elasticsearch is largely Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases, utilizing relevant algorithms and libraries.
• Solid skills in core Java, including knowledge of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Able to work autonomously and guide projects from start to finish.
• Experience in collaborative development and receiving/giving feedback on code.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Experience using AI for development acceleration and code optimization.
• Ability to transition between different projects and teams based on business priorities.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration in a distributed team.
