Overview

Elastic, the Search AI Company, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This globally-distributed team focuses on delivering a robust search experience, including improving search functionality in Lucene.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to enhance search engine offerings.
• Contribute to building new search features and resolving bugs.
• Work with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Identify and drive improvements in search relevance.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases, familiarity with relevant algorithms.
• Strong core Java skills and understanding of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously from project inception to completion.
• Experience in collaborative development and code review.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven track record using AI in development, debugging, and optimization.
• High capability for collaboration across functions and teams.
• Experience in remote asynchronous communication.
