Overview

The role is for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Storage Engine team in a fully remote capacity. The team develops core storage and query technologies for observability workloads, focusing on improving storage efficiency and optimizing data layouts.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Drive initiatives to build industry-leading observability solutions.
• Work with a globally distributed team focused on Elasticsearch's logs and metrics capabilities.
• Implement best practices for clean coding standards and improve system clarity.
• Act as a subject matter expert across key areas of Elasticsearch, mentoring the engineering organization.
• Triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests collaboratively.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily built with Java.

Requirements

• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams.
• Experience in using AI to enhance development and debug complex systems.
• Track record of implementing efficient indexing, storage, and querying techniques.
• Experience with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Strong core Java skills and understanding of its concurrency primitives.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in a collaborative environment.
