Senior Software Engineer - Storage Engine - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Storage Engine team at Elastic, a company that delivers search, security, and observability solutions through advanced technology. This is a fully remote position focused on developing storage and query technologies for observability workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural evolution of core storage engine components, addressing performance bottlenecks in indexing layouts and resource utilization.
• Drive cross-organizational initiatives to develop industry-leading observability solutions.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team focused on Elasticsearch's logs and metrics capabilities.
• Implement best practices for clean coding standards and simplify complex system behaviors across the platform.
• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) and mentor within the engineering organization.
• Collaborate with a global community to triage, resolve, and review issues and pull requests.
• Write modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Ability to collaborate across different functions and seamlessly transition between projects.
• Strong autonomous work ethic with effective asynchronous communication skills.
• Experience using AI to enhance development processes and troubleshoot complex systems.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Prometheus.
• Strong core Java skills and understanding of its concurrency features.
• Proven ability to engage in technical discussions and work collaboratively across distributed teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
