Overview

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This role involves contributing to the development of a robust and feature-rich search experience, focusing on the design and implementation of new search features and enhancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine with unmatched speed and relevance.
• Develop new search features and resolve bugs while improving code simplicity.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on Elasticsearch's vector search capabilities.
• Identify and drive improvements in search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java based.

Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity techniques on search platforms or in academic research.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, utilizing relevant algorithms (HNSW, IVF).
• Solid skills in core Java and familiarity with standard data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously on projects from start to finish.
• Comfortable with collaborative development and providing feedback on code.
• Experience with various data storage technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Proven record of using AI to enhance development and debug complex systems.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and transition between projects seamlessly.
